Piroctone Olamine is an antifungal and antimicrobial agent widely used in cosmetics, especially in scalp care products. It is recognized for its high efficacy against Malassezia spp., the main microorganism associated with dandruff and various scalp conditions.

Piroctone Olamine works by inhibiting fungal metabolism through the chelation of essential metal ions, interfering with the microorganism's cellular energy transport. This mechanism helps reduce the proliferation of yeast and bacteria, aiding in the control of flaking, itching, and scalp irritation.

This ethanolamine salt with piroctone, a derivative of hydroxamic acid, has the same dandruff-reducing properties as zinc pyrithione, but with much lower toxicity and is environmentally friendly. Therefore, this active ingredient can replace zinc pyrithione.

In addition to its anti-dandruff action, it has sebum-regulating and soothing properties, improving scalp comfort and hair appearance. It is compatible with a wide range of surfactants, making it easy to incorporate into shampoos, conditioners, and leave-in treatments.
