Tranexamic acid is a derivative of the amino acid lysine, widely used in cosmetics for its depigmenting, anti-inflammatory, and soothing properties. It is a protease inhibitor that reduces the excessive action of enzymes that degrade skin proteins, and is therefore a multifunctional active ingredient that stimulates collagen synthesis, reduces excessive inflammation, and has depigmenting and dark spot-reducing activity.

Tranexamic acid works by modulating inflammatory pathways and melanocyte activity, inhibiting the interaction between keratinocytes and melanocytes induced by UV radiation and inflammatory factors. This mechanism helps reduce melanin production and the appearance of dark spots, melasma, and dyschromia, improving skin tone uniformity.

Furthermore, it possesses calming and anti-inflammatory properties, making it a suitable ingredient for sensitive, reactive skin or skin prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
